PREP WRESTLING/SWIMMING ROUNDUP: Lake Stevens secures Wesco North dual meet wrestling title

EVERETT — The Lake Stevens wrestling team locked up the Wesco North dual meet championship Thursday with a 43-12 win over Everett.

The Vikings, now 7-0 in the Wesco North and 9-0 overall, have one league meet remaining against last-place Oak Harbor. Everett was the last one-loss team standing between Lake Stevens and the title.

Everett dropped to 5-2, 8-2.

“Things have been going good, our guys have had a good week and have been working really hard,” Lake Stevens coach Brent Barnes said. “We had some guys step in tonight that haven’t gotten on the match much and they all did good work. … It was a good night for us, Everett is a good team.”

Lake Stevens’s senior Ian Dupape stepped into his 145-pound match and proved his worth, nailing a pin in 4 minutes, 43 seconds. That result came in the middle of a four-match winning streak for Lake Stevens.

Barnes also noted that the emergence of Jake Anderson has been outstanding, and that when Anderson hits the mat, it’s game on, proven by a 18-4 major decision.

“He wrestles so hard, is so busy the whole match and keeps constant pressure,” Barnes said. “He is an example to the style we want our guys to wrestle.”
