REGIONAL PREVIEW: Lynnwood vs. Bellarmine Prep girls

When: Saturday, 2 p.m.

Where: Everett C.C.

Records: Lynnwood 22-1; Bellarmine Prep 17-4

AP rank: Lynnwood 1st; Bellarmine Prep 10th

Scoreczar rank: Lynnwood 1st; Bellarmine Prep 11th

Key wins: Lynnwood—Beaverton (Ore.), South Medford (Ore.), Mount Rainier, Edmonds-Woodway (three), Jackson (twice); Bellarmine Prep—Wilson, Central Kitsap, Kentwood.

How they got to regionals: Lynnwood beat Arlington in the District 1 championship game to earn the district’s No. 1 seed. Bellarmine Prep lost to Skyview in the District 3/4 third-place game to earn the district’s No. 4 seed.

Players to watch: Lynnwood—Jasmin Edwards, PG; Mikayle Pivec, P; Jordyn Edwards, G/W; Monty Cooper, G; Bellarmine Prep—Claire Martin, C; Jayana Ervin, F; Jasmyne Holmes, G; Shelby Gavigan, G.

Breakdown: Since losing to Kentwood in last year’s state regionals, the Royals have had this weekend circled. This year they get a Bellarmine Prep team that ran roughshod over the Narrows 4A this season, going undefeated in league and winning 13 consecutive games at one point. But it was a down year in the Narrows 4A and the Lions are 0-2 against ranked teams. Bellarmine Prep also lost its season opener to Jackson, which lost both of its games to Lynnwood by an average margin of 37.5 points. Another bad sign for Bellarmine Preps is its lack of height (Martin is the only Lions’ player above 6-feet at 6-2). Expect Pivec to have a big game and the Royals to finally punch their ticket to Tacoma.
