Roughnecks part ways with coach

The National Lacrosse League’s Calgary Roughnecks announced that they will not renew the contract of head coach Dave Pym on Tuesday.

Pym spent five seasons with the Roughnecks and led the team to the NLL’s best record in the 2012 season, but the Roughnecks suffered an early exit in the playoffs at the hands of the Edmonton Rush.

“Decisions like this are always difficult to make,” Roughnecks general manager Mike Board said. “Over the past five seasons, Dave has made significant contributions to our club as a scout, assistant coach and a head coach. I thank Dave for his commitment and hard work and wish him every success in the future.”

Board has now turned his attention to identifying candidates to replace Pym.

Of note: Former Philadelphia Wings player and coach Chris Sanderson passed away last Thursday after a long battle with brain cancer. Sanderson was first diagnosed in 2008. After his NLL playing career ended in 2004, he became an assistant coach with the Wings and served in that position until 2011.
