Seahawks’ Browner reportedly facing suspension

As if the news of Walter Thurmond’s pending suspension wasn’t bad enough for the Seahawks, now they’re also apparently going forward without injured cornerback Brandon Browner.

According to Mike Silver of the NFL Network, Browner is also facing a suspension, though there is confusion about the cause of the suspension. Initially, NFL.com posted a report saying Browner was facing a suspension for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy, which is what led to Browner’s four-game suspension last season.

That quickly led to denials from both Browner and his agent, Peter Schaffer (Schaffer did not return a phone call and text message).

Later, NFL.com changed its story to say the suspension is for violating the team’s substance abuse policy.

The story on NFL.com also said the Seahawks will sign Antoine Winfield, then later amended to say they are trying to sign Winfield. So that situation is still not resolved.

The Seahawks did work out Marcus Trufant Monday and Perrish Cox a few weeks earlier, so those are two other potential targets. Cox most recently played for San Francisco, but was released earlier this month.

UPDATE: Now ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Browner is facing a one-year suspension under the league’s substance abuse policy.
