Seahawks’ Bryant, Unger won’t play Sunday

Seattle Seahawks center Max Unger and defensive end Red Bryant have been ruled out for Sunday’s game in Atlanta because of concussions suffered in last weekend’s win over Tampa Bay.

“Those guys will not go,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “They’re not going to play. We’re going to take care of them this week and have them ready for next week, hopefully.”

That means a rotation of players filling in for Bryant, perhaps with Michael Bennett as the starter, though as much as Seattle rotates linemen, Bryant’s snaps likely will be spread out among several players.

Lemuel Jeanpierre, meanwhile, will start at center for the third time this year, having previously filled in when Unger was sidelined with a triceps injury. It will mark the third time this season the Seahawks have played with three of their starting five offensive linemen sidelined.

“Whenever he’s played for us in the games, he’s come through,” Carroll said of Jeanpierre. “He’s played already for us, we feel like he’s another one of the starters going in there. So we’re pleased to get him this chance again and we expect him to play really well.”

Also out is rookie defensive tackle Jordan Hill, who has a biceps injury. It is not, however, related to the biceps injury Hill suffered in training camp that kept him out for more than a month, and Carroll said this strain is less serious, noting Hill should return to practice next week.

The news was mostly good on the three offensive players returning from long-term injuries. Carroll noted that tackles Breno Giacomini and Russell Okung were able to handle a full day of practice Friday, and are on track to play next week if things go well.

On receiver Percy Harvin, who hasn’t played this season because of a hip injury, Carroll said “Percy’s the best he’s been . … All the signs are really encouraging.”

Carroll said the hope is for Harvin to practice next week after spending this week working out separate from practice.
