Below you’ll find as short of an injury report as the Seahawks have had since early in the season, but first, here’s a bit of what Pete Carroll had to say after Friday’s practice.
Carroll tends to be at his sarcastic best on Fridays, and today was no different. After talking about seeing former USC quarterback Mark Sanchez again, Carroll was asked if he might see Sanchez before the game, and he interrupted the question saying, “to punch him? No, he may give me a shot in the ribs or something.”
And asked if a roster move was coming to fill the open spot on the roster, Carroll said there was, but wouldn’t reveal what that move will be (teams have until 1 p.m. tomorrow to make moves for Sunday’s game).
“We’ll let you know another day from now. We’ll do it tomorrow,” he said. “This is all I got is this teeny bit of suspense here, OK, so I’m going to hold it.”
Cooper Helfet didn’t practice all week because of an ankle injury, while Jeremy Lane was limited after not practicing the previous two days. Both will work out Sunday to determine their availability.
“Cooper wants to run for us, he thinks he can show us something on gameday,” Carroll said. “We’ll see what happens with that. Jeremy was limited today. Each day is important for him; we’ll see what happens tomorrow. He will definitely be taken up to gametime.”
Center Max Unger will miss a third game with ankle and knee injuries, but is running, Carroll said, and has a chance to get back next week: “He’s running, not enough to compete for this week, but he has a chance next week. It’ll be day-to-day when he comes back, but he’s got a chance to come back and compete for it.”
Cornerback Byron Maxwell “came back fine today” after being limited Thursday with a shin injury. If Lane can’t play, Maxwell is an option in the nickel corner spot, something the Seahawks did last week, moving him inside from his usual right cornerback spot, then bringing Tharold Simon in to play on the outside.
“He did really well,” Carroll said of Maxwell playing nickel. “He’s got a big presence in there, and it’s a good matchup for us this week if that’s the way we go. He’s well versed at it, he loves to come off the edge, he likes playing in there; it’s a good position for him. And it gets Tharold on the field, and Tharold is doing some good stuff on the outside, so that’s a good way for us to go. We have a couple of options there.”
