Seahawks Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor earn All-Pro honors

For the second consecutive year, Seahawks safety Earl Thomas and cornerback Richard Sherman were first-team All-Pro selections. Another member of Seattle’s secondary, safety Kam Chancellor, earned second-team honors.

This is the third-straight year earning All-Pro honors for Thomas, who was named to the second team in 2011.

This is the first time since 2002 that three members of one secondary earned AP All-Pro honors. That year, Eagles CB Troy Vincent and S Brian Dawkins earned first-team honors and CB Bobby Taylor was named to the second team. That feat was also accomplished by the 1995 49ers, who had CB Eric Davis and S Merton Hanks earn first-team honors, and S Tim McDonald earn a second-team nod. If my research is correct, the Seahawks and those two teams are the only teams to have three defensive backs earn AP All-Pro honors since a second team was added in 1972. Oh, and the defensive coordinator on that 1995 49ers team? That would be Pete Carroll.

The AP All-Pro team is selected by a panel of 50 media members, and Sherman received 48 of 50 votes. Quarterback Peyton Manning was a unanimous selection, meaning there was no second-team QB, an honor that could perhaps have gone to Russell Wilson if there had been one.

Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor were named to the Pro Bowl last week, as was Wilson, Marshawn Lynch, Max Unger.
