Seahawks sign CB Phillip Adams

The Seahawks have signed cornerback Phillip Adams to a one-year deal, just their third addition since free agency started earlier this month. And if that name rings a bell, it’s probably because Adams spent time in Seattle in 2011 and 2012 before landing in Oakland, where he spent the past two seasons.

Adams, who is listed at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, came into the league as a seventh-round pick in 2010, and spent time with San Francisco and New England before landing in Seattle late in the 2011 season. Adams appeared in just one game for Seattle, then was released following training camp in 2012 before being picked up by the Raiders.

In two seasons in Oakland, Adams appeared in 31 games, starting four. He had two interceptions and five passes defensed in 2012, and contributed 30 tackles last season.

Adams’ signing gives the Seahawks some extra cornerback depth after losing Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond in free agency. He also provides an option to replace Golden Tate on punt returns, having returned 33 punts for 198 yards with a long return of 47 yards during his two years in Oakland.
