Seahawks sign three, waive Smith and Dixon

The Seahawks signed receiver Morrell Presley Thursday, adding a big-bodied target a day after receiver Sidney Rice decided to retire. Presley, who went undrafted in 2013, began his college career at UCLA before eventually landing at Division II California University of Pennsylvania (and if that school sounds familiar, it’s also where the Seahawks found QB Josh Portis).

Presley was listed as a 6-foot-4, 225 pound TE by his college, but was worked with the receivers when the Seahawks had him in their rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player.

The Seahawks waived/injured guard Jared Smith, a seventh-round pick from last season who started the year on the practice squad before going on injured reserve with a knee injury. Seattle also waived TE Chase Dixon, who signed with the team out of Central Arkansas as an undrafted free agent.

Those moves, along with Rice’s retirement, leaves the Seahawks with two open spots on their 90-man roster, so more moves are likely coming soon.

Those roster spots are no longer open. The Seahawks have also agreed to a deal with guard C.J. Davis, according to his agent. Davis, 27, has appeared in 14 games in his career, seven with Carolina in 2010 and seven with the Denver Broncos in 2012. The 6-foot-2, 308-pound Davis entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2009.

Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo later reported that Seattle has signed receiver David Gilreath. Gilreath, undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2011, has bounced around the NFL since coming into the league, spending time with seven different teams.
