Seahawks sign two tryout players, including "the kid from Idaho"

When the Seahawks’ three-day rookie minicamp ended Sunday, Pete Carroll was asked if any of the tryout players had made an impression. Carroll singled out Benson Mayowa, a defensive end from Idaho, though Carroll either could not remember Mayowa’s last name, or didn’t want to try to pronounce it. Even so, the fact that of all tryout players, Mayowa was the one Carroll mentioned, was a good sign for him.

“The kid from Idaho did a nice job, Benson,” Carroll said. “He was a guy who really jumped out, number 70, when he was rushing the passer. He looked pretty fast on the edge.”

Now, that kid from Idaho, aka, No. 70, now has an NFL contract, as he was one of two players, along with Kirkland native and University of British Columbia product TE Victor Marshall.

The Seahawks also released linebacker Ramon Buchanon, who they had signed out of Miami as an undrafted free agent after the draft.

One interesting note on Marshall, who also played at Mesa CC before going to Idaho, then to Canada, he may be undersized for a tight end at 235 pounds, but he can run. As a senior at Juanita High School, Marshall finished second at the Class 4A state meet in the 100 and 200 meter dash.

Also of note, two University of Washington players were signed Monday following tryouts at rookie minicamps, including Kamiak grad Justin Glenn, who signed with Kansas City. Also, the Packers signed RB/FB Jonathan Amosa.
