EVERETT — Six athletes, one coach and three teams have been selected for induction into the Everett Community College Athletic Hall of Fame at a June 5 dinner ceremony on the school campus.
The athletes are golfer Art Abrahamson, a state medalist who led his team to state championships in 1954 and 1955; track and field athlete Fred Andrew, who won a conference title in the javelin in 1965 and later coached track and cross country at Bellevue CC; basketball player and track and field athlete Al Clise, who competed in 1967-68 and went on the University of Nevada-Las Vegas; track and field athlete Larry Lian, who set school records and won conference championships in the 110-meter high hurdles and 400 intermediate hurdles in 1973; field hockey, basketball and tennis athlete Carol West, 1963-64 and 1964-65, who went on to be a three-sport athlete at the University of Washington; and basketball and baseball player Bill Yeager, 1964-65 and 1965-66, who led the basketball team in scoring and rebounding in his second season and helped the baseball team win a state title the same year.
The induction ceremony will also honor Dick Rowley (deceased), a tennis coach at the school who won state titles in 1964 and 1969.
Also being inducted are the 1954 football team, the 1958-59 men’s basketball team, and the 1972-73 women’s basketball team.
The induction dinner will be held in the Everett CC Student Fitness Center, 2206 Tower St., with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.
The evening’s keynote speaker is former Washington State University quarterback Jack Thompson, who set numerous WSU passing records from 1975-79. He was later chosen in the first round of the NFL draft and played six pro seasons with Cincinnati and Tampa Bay.
The event is open to the public with tickets $50 for adults and $25 for youth. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 425-388-9535 before May 29.
The class of inductees was selected by a committee of community members, coaches and Everett CC leaders.
