Sidney Rice’s European adventure

OK, OK, so Sidney Rice isn’t really off on a European adventure, but he is actually in Switzerland having a non-surgical procedure done on his knee.

“He’s off campus getting some special treatments right now,” Pete Carroll said. “We’re taking care of his knee thing that we’ve been monitoring right now. He’s actually in Switzerland… He’s a long ways away getting some work done. We’re really excited about what he’s doing, it’s something we’ve been working with for a long time. The timing came up where this is when he has to take his break to go get his procedures, so he’ll be gone for a couple of days.”

“I’m not going to try to tell you what it is,” Carroll continued. “This is way beyond pay scale.”

Of course that makes you wonder just how much they’re paying their doctors in Switzerland, but I digress.

Carroll said Rice is not having surgery, and that they expect him to be at full speed when he returns. Rice had been practicing prior to Tuesday’s practice, though he was limited in the amount of reps he took on Saturday and Sunday.

“He was practicing fine when he was out here, but this was a procedure they’ve been waiting to do,” Carroll said. “When he comes back he’ll go right back on the field. He didn’t get hurt, we’re just trying help him along, we think we have something going here that might really help him, and I can’t tell you what it is, because I’d make a mistake.”

While Carroll either couldn’t or wouldn’t get into more details, there are a number of recent cases where U.S. athletes have traveled to Europe for stem-cell therapy that is not approved by the FDA.
