EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips released their schedule for the 2013-14 season Wednesday.
The 72-game schedule opens with a home game against Prince George on Saturday, Sept. 21. It’s the second straight year Everett begins the season by entertaining the Cougars. The season concludes with a road game at Portland on Sunday, March 16.
“I think any time you’ve got a schedule there’s a few things you think could be improved upon,” Everett general manager Garry Davidson said. “But for the most part I feel it’s a decent schedule. You’re trying to cram 72 games into that time, and then you don’t have building availability from time to time. So it’s a pretty good schedule.”
Some of the highlights:
w Everett travels to play the Central Division this season, and this time the Tips will be making two trips east instead of one. The first has the Tips going to Red Deer and Edmonton on Oct. 8-9, then detouring through Prince George for two games. The second sees Everett face Kootenay, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Calgary on Nov. 19-23.
w Everett plays a Veterans Day Monday afternoon game against Vancouver on Nov. 11.
w The first visit by league champion Portland is on Nov. 15.
w The Tips have a busy New Year’s schedule. Everett plays host to Victoria for a night game on New Year’s eve. The teams then make the quick turnaround onto the ferry to Vancouver Island for an afternoon contest at Victoria on New Year’s day.
w The Tips play nine of the 10 meetings against I-5 rival Seattle during the second half of the season.
