EVERETT — Everett Silvertips captain Matt Pufahl is getting his shot at the professional ranks.
The recently graduated overage defenseman has signed an amateur tryout contract with the American Hockey League’s Lake Erie Monsters, the Tips announced Tuesday. Pufahl will spend the rest of the 2013-14 season with the Monsters.
Pufahl had an excellent season in his one campaign with the Tips. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native was acquired from his hometown Saskatoon Blades during the offseason, then enjoyed one of the best offensive seasons ever produced by an Everett defenseman, tallying 15 goals and 35 assists in 62 games.
Pufahl becomes the fourth Everett player who’s finishing out the 2013-14 season in the AHL. Forwards Joshua Winquist and Jujhar Khaira are playing with the Oklahoma City Barons, and defenseman Mirco Mueller is playing with the Worcester Sharks.
Also Tuesday, the NHL Central Scouting Service released its final rankings for the 2014 NHL draft. The only Everett player listed was goaltender Austin Lotz, who was ranked 22nd among North American goalies.
