EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips went nearly three years without having a WHL Player of the Week.
Now the Tips have their second in three weeks.
Everett winger Joshua Winquist received the honor Monday, following in the footsteps of Tips defenseman Matt Pufahl, who was named Player of the Week on Oct. 14. Prior to Pufahl, the last Everett player to be named WHL Player of the Week was Kellan Tochkin for Nov. 15-21, 2010.
Winquist, a 20-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, had one goal and six assists as Everett won both its games over the weekend. He had three assists Friday in Everett’s 6-5 victory at Vancouver, then had a goal and three assists Saturday in the Tips’ 7-6 victory at Kamloops. Winquist’s goal against the Blazers was the overtime game-winner.
