The Seattle Sounders FC placed midfielder-forward Nate Jaqua on injured reserve Thursday, just hours before opening its 2010 Major League Soccer against the expansion Philadelphia Union.
Jaqua, who is suffering from an injury to his pubic symphysis, will miss at least six games. He is eligible to return for the team’s May 2 contest against the Columbus Crew.
Jaqua, 29, is entering his ninth season in MLS. Last season with Seattle, he played in 28 games, including 27 starts, and posted career highs with nine goals and seven assists.
