Midfielder Mauro Rosales will miss Friday’s game against Houston and perhaps more time with a sprain knee, Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid said. Rosales, one of the team’s top players last season, suffered the injury late in Saturday’s win over Toronto. He also dealt with a knee sprain late last season and missed the playoffs, but Schmid says this injury is not related.
“Mauro will be out for this weekend for sure,” Schmid said. “He’s got a knee sprain. It’s not the same injury he had last year, so we’ve just got to see how he responds. It could be a couple of weeks, it could be a little bit more. We’ll have to see how it goes next week.”
Schmid mentioned Christian Sivebaek and Roger Levesque as possible options to fill in for Rosales on the right side. Another option Schmid said, would be to move left back Marc Burch up to left midfield and slide Alvaro Fernandez from the left to the right.
