Swimmers to watch: Mariner sophomore Brianna Lucien is the top seed in the 500 freestyle and the fourth seed in the 200 freestyle. … Jackson star freshman Maddison Pressler and Nicole Limberg are both seeded in the top 10 in two events. Pressler is the top seed in the 200 free and the fifth seed in the 100 back, while Limberg is seeded third and fourth in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, respectively. Both swimmers are key components on Jackson’s 200 medley and 400 free relays. … Kamiak’s Laura Johnson will lead both top-10 seeded 200 and 400 free relays and is seeded eighth in both the 100 fly and back. … Cascade diver Ashley Albrecht is the reigning district champ and is headed to state in her first year of competitive diving. She’ll be joined in Federal Way by teammates Danielle Booth (eighth, 100 breaststroke and 14th, 50 free) and Demetra Laurent (12th, 200 free).

Swimmers to watch: Meadowdale’s Anna Keane is the top seed in both the 50 and 100 free races and is going for a three-peat state championship and will lead the Mavericks’ 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. … First-year diver Brooke Wherley, of Marysville Getchell, scored 406.75 points to win last weekend’s district championship and will be joined by teammate Alex Pimental. … Stanwood freshman Karlie Rimat has the potential to be the first Spartans swimmer to make the finals at state. She’s seeded 16th in the 200 IM and the 12th in the 500 free. … Shorewood’s Britt Blomso, a standout soccer player who chose swimming over soccer, is seeded seventh in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 100 back. She also leads two Thunderbird relays, the 200 medley and 400 free, that should make Saturday’s finals. … Teammates from rival schools, Melody Coleman, of Marysville Pilchuck, and Rachel Hartmeyer, of Marysville Getchell, will each swim in two events. Coleman is the district champ and seeded fifth in the 200 IM and is the seventh seed in the 100 breaststroke. Hartmeyer is the district champ and seventh seed in the 100 butterfly and is also swimming in the 500 free.

Class 2A

When: Today, 2:30 p.m. (prelims); Saturday, 2:30 p.m. (finals)

Local swimmers: 200 free—Vayle-Maureen Barela, Archbishop Murphy; 200 individual medley—Kaelee McCloskey, Archbishop Murphy; Diving—Riley Krueger, Archbishop Murphy, Sierra Bequette, Archbishop Murphy, Claire Main, Archbishop Murphy; 100 butterfly—Kaelee McCloskey, Archbishop Murphy; 400 free relay—Archbishop Murphy.

Swimmers to watch: Archbishop Murphy sophomore Kaelee McCloskey, who finished fifth in the 500 free at state last year as a freshman, is the second seed in the 100 fly and fourth seed in the 200 IM. … The Wildcats’ 400 free relay team of Vayle-Maureen Barela, Samantha Nixon, Caitlin Mitchell and McCloskey is the 20th seed. … Archbishop Murphy head coach Mike McCloskey calls Wildcats dive coach Jolynne Abbe-Leitzel “the pied piper of diving” and Abbe-Leitzel has three more divers — Riley Krueger, Sierra Bequette and Claire Main — in the state competition.
