A pair of baseball teams from Stilly Valley Little League captured tournament championships last month.
The Stilly Valley Black Sox won the District 1 Tournament of Champions held in Lake Stevens. The tourney brought together the regular-season champions from Little League organizations throughout Snohomish County.
The Black Sox posted a 5-0 record in the tournament and beat Pacific Little League 11-1 in the title contest.
Stilly Valley’s Jacob Burkett pitched a two-hitter in the championship game. He also collected three hits, including his first Little League home run.
In the five games, the Black Sox pitching staff allowed just three earned runs, and their offense connected for nine home runs, which was more than they hit during the regular season. Owen Bishop accounted for four home runs in Stilly Valley’s first three games, including a three-homer, nine-RBI performance in a 10-0 win over Mukilteo.
Other members of the team included, Jacob Smith, Levi Wiseman, Zach Allgood, Colby Williamson, Ren Rasar, Carston Hayes, Ashton McKinney, Sean Peacock, Mason Szechenyi and Quintin Wagner.
The team was coached by Rick Bishop, Gary Wiseman, Desi Szechenyi, and John McKinney
Meanwhile, a second Stilly Valley team, the Blue Hawks, won the 2014 Marysville Strawberry Tournament that concluded June 12 at Cedar Field in Marysville.
After dropping their first two tournament games the Blue Hawks battled back, eventually reaching the title game, where they defeated a squad from Pacific Little League 11-1.
Members of the Blue Hawks included Jaden Larson, Caleb Cook, Bryson Durnil, Garrett Davis, Ben Vanderweyst, Logan Humphrey, Ethan Gadberry, Chase Miller, Mo Stacey, Chaser David, Josh Snow and Bryce Novy.
The team was coached by Brian Davis, Patrick Vanderweyst and Ed Snow.
