SEDRO-WOOLLEY — Despite a complete game, eight-strikeout performance from starting pitcher Shelby Jeffries, the Sultan softball team fell 2-1 to Lake Washington in the 2A bi-district tournament on Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the sixth inning, Turks senior Lexi O’Brien put Sultan on the board with an RBI single. The Turks then head a chance to tie the game at two but had a runner thrown out at home to end the inning.
Despite Saturday’s loss — Sultan’s first-ever appearance in the district championship game — the Turks advance to the 2A state tournament for the first time in school history (fastpitch era).
“Their is a nice buzz around Sultan right now,” Sultan assistant coach Pete Riehle said. “The kids at the school and the people in the community have rallied to support the team.”
