Terrace girls tennis duo advance to semis of 3A state tourney

KENNEWICK — Mountlake Terrace’s Allison Lorraine and Tina Liu teamed up on Friday to win their first two matches and advance to the semifinals at the 3A state girls tennis tournament.

Lorraine and Liu opened up with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Auburn Mountainview’s Sierra Silva and Victoria Bolshakova. In the quarterfinal round, Lorraine and Liu came back after dropping the first set to defeat Eastside Catholic’s Megan Bastian and Rachael DeCaires 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

The Hawks duo held a 4-1 lead in both the third set and the seven-point tiebreak, and, though they weren’t able to capitalize right away, they were able to hold off the comeback and advance to Saturday’s semifinals.

“It was a very up and down match, momentum kept switching from one team to another,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Alberto Ramirez said. “(Lorraine and Liu) managed to keep their composure together at the end and pull it off.”

Lorraine and Liu face Mercer Island’s Caroline Dillion and Caroline Hamilton on Saturday for a chance to play in the state championship.

“We have to really be on top of our game tomorrow to pull it off,” Ramirez said. “I don’t have any doubts that the girls will be one-hundred percent prepared mentally and physically, but it will take a lot of effort and good shots to win.”
