The hard-hitting Gunterman developed as an all-around threat while maintaining her standing as the most feared attacker in Wesco 4A. She’ll continue her volleyball career at Western Washington University.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Brandon Jones, Archbishop Murphy
Jones led the Wildcats to a Cascade Conference championship, a 21-1 overall record and a third-place finish at the Class 2A state tournament. Archbishop Murphy dropped just six sets all season and placed five players on the All-Cascade Conference teams.
FIRST TEAM
Gabby Gunterman
Outside hitter, Lake Stevens, sr.
Gunterman earned first-team all-Wesco 4A honors, posting 390 kills, a .351 hitting percentage, 102 digs and 25 aces, leading the Vikings to an eighth-place finish at the 4A state tournament. “She was our team’s most valuable player this year for her physical play, but also her presence on the court,” Vikings coach Dawn Hanson said.
Samantha Drechsel
Outside hitter, Cedar Park Christian-Bothell, sr.
Drechsel earned first-team All-Cascade Conference honors, tallying 549 kills, a .351 hitting percentage, 319 digs and 78 aces, leading the Eagles to a fifth-place finish at the 1A state tournament. She was one of 24 players nationwide to be named to the Under Armour High School All American first team and will continue her career at the University of Maryland. “She has worked incredibly hard to become a great player, leader, teammate and person,” CPC-Bothell coach Marni Drechsel said.
Missy Peterson
Right-side hitter, Edmonds-Woodway, sr.
Peterson earned first-team All-Wesco 3A honors, averaging 3.1 kills, 1.8 assists and 1.98 digs per set. She has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Long Beach State University. “Missy is the most talented and well-rounded athlete I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thus far,” said Warriors coach Nicole Bordeaux. “On top of her athletic success, she truly defines what it is to be a teammate on the court; she is always playing for her (team), never herself. She is a leader. She is a fierce competitor.”
Lauren Sanders
Middle blocker, Glacier Peak, sr.
Sanders, a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection registered 252 kills (.305 hitting percentage), 33 solo blocks, 41 assisted blocks and 185 digs this season. The 2016 U.S. Junior national team member will continue her career at the University of Washington. “Lauren has the size, speed and athleticism to play the game at the highest level,” Huskies coach Keegan Cook said in a press release. “She has a high of a ceiling as you could ask for of a recruit at that position.”
Natalie Hayward
Setter, Archbishop Murphy, sr.
Hayward was named the Cascade Conference’s Most Valuable Player. She registered 76 kills, 34 blocks and 677 assists. “Natalie is one of the most well-rounded players I have ever coached,” Archbishop Murphy coach Brandon Jones said. “She has the ability to change the momentum of a match in a number of ways. Her leadership and maturity on the court was a huge key to our success.”
Robin Meador
Libero, Marysville Getchell, sr.
Meador was a first-team All-Wesco 3A selection after breaking every dig record in program history. “She was outstanding every game and is an outstanding athlete,” Chargers coach Kristina Naff said.
SECOND TEAM
OH Meredith Teague, Monroe, sr.
Teague, an All-Wesco 4A first-team selection, had 281 kills, a .271 hitting percentage, 137 digs and 63 aces while leading the Bearcats to the 4A state tournament.
OH Chloe Biscup, Cedar Park Christian-Bothell, sr.
Biscup was an All-Cascade Conference pick after posting 270 kills, a .309 hitting percentage, 67 blocks, 110 digs and 56 aces for an Eagles team that placed fifth at the 1A state tournament. She’ll continue her career at Western Washington University.
MB Kaprice Boston, Lynnwood, sr.
Boston, an All-Wesco 3A first-team pick, tallied 248 kills and 75 blocks. She signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Northern Arizona University.
OPP/MB Hailee Blau, Oak Harbor, jr
Blau was an All-Wesco 3A first-team pick after posting 361 kills, 69 blocks, 170 digs and 31 aces. “She is primarily a front-row player, (but) she was also one of our most consistent passers,” Wildcats coach Kerri Molitor said. “We relied heavily on her.”
S Lilly Eason, Lake Stevens, jr.
Eason, a first-team All-Wesco 4A selection, had 442 assists, 41 aces, 38 digs and 143 kills. She’s given a verbal commitment to play at Seattle University after graduating. “She plays with a lot of emotion and positive energy,” Vikings coach Dawn Hanson said. “She is exciting and entertaining to watch.”
L Mina Duong, Monroe, sr.
Duong was named to the All-Wesco 4A first team after posting 289 digs and 45 aces for a Bearcats team that qualified for the 4A state tournament.
