EVERETT – For the second straight year the Everett Silvertips will bring a strong presence to the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
Three Silvertips – center Zach Hamill and defensemen Eric Doyle and Taylor Ellington – were among the 40 players selected to play in the game, which takes place Jan. 17 in Quebec City, Quebec.
The Top Prospects Game is designed to showcase the Canadian Hockey League’s top draft-eligible players. The selection of Hamill, Doyle and Ellington indicates a likelihood of the trio being selected high in this year’s NHL draft.
“Having three guys go to that is something special,” Hamill said. “Last year we had four guys go, so hopefully every year we’ll have a couple guys go.”
Hamill is leading Everett and tied for seventh in the league in scoring with 46 points (15 goals, 31 assists). Doyle has three goals and 13 assists, Ellington has five goals and three assists.
Everett has now had seven players chosen for the Top Prospects Game in the past two years. Last year forwards Peter Mueller, Ondrej Fiala and Brady Calla and goaltender Leland Irving represented the Tips.
“We’ve got a great scouting staff and they’re out there finding good players,” Everett coach Kevin Constantine said. “It’s our responsibility as coaches to try and develop those players. Hopefully the seven guys who have gone the last couple years is an indicator of those two things, and we’re really proud of the work the guys put in to get themselves into this position.”
