LANGLEY, British Columbia — The outcome wasn’t as lopsided as the Everett Silvertips’ last trip to Langley Events Centre was, but the result was the same.
The Tips won their third straight as they knocked off the host Vancouver Giants 2-1 before 2,536 fans at LEC.
It was a far cry from Everett’s last visit in December when the U.S. Division-leading Tips (40-17-2-3, 85 points) set a franchise record for goals in an 11-0 dismantling.
Vancouver (31-22-5-3, 70 points) have lost three straight.
“We looked slow tonight,” Everett assistant coach Mitch Love said in a post-game interview on 1380 KRKO-AM.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Vancouver. I thought they came out ready to play the hockey game. They got a few bodies back from injury and they were motivated. They skated, they worked, they competed. They ran into a hot goaltender in Carter (Hart). We’ve gotta definitely get our game back in order. We’ve gotta get our rest here and get back home and go into a building (ShoWare Center) where it’s very tough to win.”
Hart saved 29 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the win in net for Everett as the organization reached the 40-win plateau for the sixth time in franchise history.
All the offense came in the second period.
Connor Dewar gave Everett the lead when he broke a scoreless tie with a backhander from the slot on the power play at 1:54 in the second period.
Davis Koch drew the Giants even when he stashed a rebound inside the left post at 10:54 in the second.
But Martin Fasko-Rudas regained the lead for Everett less than two minutes later as he backhanded a shot past David Tendeck at 12:16.
The Tips took the 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Vancouver outshot Everett 8-7 in a scoreless opening period. Everett managed to kill three penalties during the frame to keep the game tied 0-0.
Everett was 1-for-1 on its lone power play while holding the Giants scoreless on four man advantages.
The Tips play the Seattle Thunderbirds at ShoWare Center tonight in Kent at 6:05 p.m.
