Tips trim roster, two return from NHL camps

The Tips made three roster moves today, reassigning 17-year-old winger Kyle Raymond, 16-year-old defenseman Jordan Wharrie and 16-year-old goaltender Nik Amundrud.

None of these are particularly surprising. Wharrie and Amundrud are clearly considered players of the future rather than the present, considering each appeared in just one preseason game. Raymond, meanwhile, was one of seven 17-year-old forwards on the roster, and the skinny 6-foot-5 winger can probably use a year of bulking up.

Those moves leave the Tips with 28 players on the roster — 17 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders. Everett still has four overagers and three Euros, so those situations will need to be resolved. There’s probably one or two more moves that need to be made beyond that, though the team may wait until more players return from NHL camps before taking action.

Here’s who remains, along with their ages:

Forwards (17) — Manraj Hayer (20), Reid Petryk (20), Joshua Winquist (20), Kohl Bauml (19), Jujhar Khaira (19), Brayden Low (19), Logan Aasman (18), Linden Penner (18), Carson Stadnyk (18), Waltteri Hopponen (17), Dawson Leedahl (17), Ty Mappin (17), Ivan Nikolishin (17), Tyler Sandhu (17), Mitch Skapski (17), Patrick Bajkov (16), Matt Fonteyne (16).

Defensemen (9) — Matt Pufahl (20), Ben Betker (19), Austin Adam (18), Cole MacDonald (18), Mirco Mueller (18), Lucas Skrumeda (17), Micheal Zipp (17), Kevin Davis (16), Noah Juulsen (16).

Goaltenders (2) — Daniel Cotton (19), Austin Lotz (18).

Two of that group returned to the fold Tuesday as winger Linden Penner (Calgary) and goaltender Austin Lotz (Carolina) returned from their NHL rookie camps. That means four players — forwards Reid Petryk (Edmonton) and Jujhar Khaira (Edmonton), defensemen Ben Betker (Edmonton) and Mirco Mueller (San Jose) — remain with their NHL teams.
