Tomahawks edge Vikings in overtime

LAKE STEVENS – The Marysville-Pilchuck girls basketball team rallied when it counted and hit its free throws when it mattered to overcome a record-setting night by Lake Stevens.

The Tomahawks’ Jessica Masters hit a clutch 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and her teammates were nearly perfect from the free throw line in overtime en route to a 73-70 victory over Lake Stevens Wednesday night in a Wesco North contest.

“It was close the whole way … We had a fairly large lead in the fourth, maybe six points, and (Marysville-Pilchuck) just made a run,” Vikings head coach Randy Edens said.

In overtime, the Tommies made 4 of 5 free throws. The Vikings were just 2-of-6 from the stripe in the extra period.

Masters finished with a game-high 22 points and Nicole Peterson added 20 points for Marysville-Pilchuck (2-2 in division, 5-2 overall).

Lake Stevens (1-1, 3-1) set a new school record with 10 3-pointers in the game, including six in the first half. Karissa Tri had 5 of those 3’s and finished with 19 points. Karri Gallagher had 19 points for the Vikings and she grabbed 14 rebounds.
