Cold water temperatures in Lake Stevens have delayed the spring kokanee bite, according to Greg Rockenbach at Greg’s Custom Rods in Lake Stevens, so here’s an opportunity to beat the crowd. Fish are being caught, he said, just not in the numbers that will start showing in a couple weeks.
“Guys are getting one or two each trip,” Rockenbach said. “And they are pretty much sticking with the standard gear.”
He recommends fishing the top 10 feet of water, using a 4-inch dodger, 12 to 14 inches of leader and a Wedding Ring spinner. Red seems to be the go-to color right now.
The fish are scattered, so covering a lot of water is important.
“There hasn’t been any particular hot spot,” Rockenbach said. “If you see surface action of any kind, get on ‘em.”
