Athletes of the Week for Feb. 15

Casey Evans

Lynnwood High School

The senior standout scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Royals to 60-47 victory over Shorewood in a 3A District 1 girls basketball game Feb. 9 at Lynnwood High School. Evans, who has been on varsity since her freshman season, came into the playoffs averaging 7 points per game. Evans and her teammates are looking to advance to the state regional tournament for the second straight year. The Royals advanced to the state tourament two years ago, the school’s first appearance at state since 1994. This year the Royals won the Western Conference 3A regular season title.

Hunter Lord

Lynnwood High School

The sophomore standout took first place in the 152-pound division at the 3A Region 1 wrestling tournament Feb. 11 at Skyline High School. Lord rallied for a 15-14 victory over Oak Harbor’s Joshua Crebbin in the finals. Lord placed fourth at the district meet a week earlier. Lord advances to the state championships, which are Feb. 17-18 at Tacoma Dome. He was an alternate at last year’s state tournament. “I feel confident. I feel I’m going to do good,” Lord said. “If I’m mentally prepared like I was at regionals, I think I can place in the top five. That’s my goal.”
