EVERETT — Everett Elks helped to Fill-A-Ford for the Troops at QFC in September. The 1955 trophy-winning truck was filled with items donated by generous shoppers. There are two more collections planned for upcoming Silvertips games. The Fill-A-Ford items will be mailed to the troops in November and should arrive before Christmas.

St. Vincent de Paul North Sound Council has announced a $3,000 donation from the BNSF Railway Foundation for the Beds for Children program. The funds will purchase beds for children who often have to sleep on the floor.

The GROW Washington Small Business Resource Conference has been rescheduled for Nov. 22 during Global Entrepreneur Week. More information is to be released in the near future.

ARLINGTON — The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce office hours through Dec. 31 are from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. EVERETT — United Way of Snohomish County is looking for volunteers to serve on the board of directors, marketing committee, public policy committee, Kids Matter Vision Council, Families Matter Vision Council, Community Matters Vision Council, the endowment and planned giving committee and the community conversations committee. EVERETT — Washington Healthplanfinder, the online marketplace that connects Washingtonians to new health insurance plans and financial help, has launched a statewide mobile enrollment tour. The program’s information trailer is scheduled to visit Everett Community College on Nov. 7. Information and in-person assistance will be available to help people select and sign up for coverage.

Paine Field director Dave Waggoner earned high honors from the Northwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives. The group named Waggoner Airport Executive of the Year at its annual banquet on Oct. 1. Waggoner has served as the Paine Field director for more than 22 years following a 26-year career in the Navy.

ARLINGTON — Cascade Valley Hospital was chosen from more than 1,900 hospitals nationwide to receive the T-System Client Excellence Award. The award recognizes emergency departments which improve their quality of patient care and operational processes.

SEATTLE — Seattle-based Group Health Cooperative announced that its Clear Care HMO Medicare Advantage health plan received an overall rating of five stars for Parts C and D, the highest rating available from the Centers for Medicare &Medicaid Services. This is the third year Group Health received the five-star rating.

EVERETT — The Office of the Secretary of State announced that Everett’s McClain Insurance Services is one of five state businesses to receive the prestigious Corporations for Communities Award. Secretary of State Kim Wyman presented the award during a ceremony on Oct. 22. McClain Insurance Services is an independent agency owned by Claudia McClain.

MARYSVILLE — The Washington Finance Officers Association (WFOA) presented Marysville city finance director Sandy Langdon with the President’s Award at its annual conference at the Tulalip Resort Casino on Sept. 19. The award honored Langdon and her committee for developing the organization’s Internship Program, launched in 2010. She has served as city finance director for more than 12 years and is a WFOA past-president.

EVERETT — McClain Insurance Services in Everett was one of five Washington companies that received the Corporations for Communities award from Secretary of State Kim Wyman. Winners received a certificate and a National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award, which recognizes civic engagement, voter education efforts, government services and a commitment to giving back to the community.

EDMONDS — Heather Krause of the RBC Wealth Management-U.S. Edmonds branch has been recognized for having her best year as associate vice president and financial advisor. The honor came following a challenge issued at the 2012 Women’s Association of Financial Advisors conference. Women advisors received a challenge to Plan For Your Best Year Ever and Krause met that challenge.

EDMONDS — Swedish/Edmonds has been honored with an A grade in the Fall 2013 update to the national Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog.

EVERETT — Everett’s Aviation Technical Services (ATS) was recently recognized by the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association as the Northwest Regional winner of its Exemplary Program/Project Innovation Award. ATS was the only winner in this category among corporations and government entities throughout Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington for its HazMat management program.
