Recently, Heatherwood Middle School seventh-graders had the chance to honor someone who’s made a difference in their lives at the Making a Difference Awards event June 7 at the school.
Last summer the school’s seventh-grade block teachers selected “Making a Difference” as their yearlong theme. This year students have explored the theme from several angles, including how the concept related to the community and students’ personal lives.
In February, students chose someone who had a significant and positive impact on their lives and others. After writing persuasive letters nominating their chosen winners, students joined committees to select the best essays from each block class.
At the assembly, 10 students shared winning essays and presented awards to their nominees.
Students also made posters relating what the theme means to them and how they’d like to make a positive difference in the world.
