The stadium has a new name now.

In a few years it will have a new home.

That’s the plan for officials at Archbishop Murphy High School, who honored Wildcats head football coach Terry Ennis by naming the school’s stadium Terry Ennis Stadium on Feb. 8.

If all goes well, the Everett private school hopes to have a new multi-purpose stadium ready by 2009. It is to be built on recently acquired land located west of the current football field and will retain the name Terry Ennis Stadium, school officials said.

The proposed move will lessen the impact of crowd noise and evening lighting issues for neighbors of the school, officials said. The stadium will have permanent stands that seat 1,232. It will have a synthetic playing surface surrounded by an all-weather track.

Funding for the project will come from several donors, including Mark and Marna McNaughton.
