The Mountlake Terrace girls soccer team is rebuilding, but that doesn’t mean coach Jerry Myers is ruling out the playoffs.
The Hawks graduated a large senior class and is reloading with a number of players from the junior varsity squad.
“We’re a pretty young team,” Myers said. “We’re kind of building toward the future. We’re working on improving.”
Mountlake Terrace’s top returner is junior defender Ariana Curva. She is joined by sophomore goalkeeper Takara Mitsui and sophomore forward Erin Russell.
The Hawks start three freshmen, including Maddy Kristjanson in the midfield.
Mountlake Terrace is dropping down a classification to 3A this year and that means the possiblities for the playoffs are decent. Six teams will move on to the postseason.
“In Wesco 3A there is more of a chance for playoffs,” Myers said.
So far the Hawks lost their opening 2-1 to Arlington and then fell to Shorewood 2-1 in their league opener. Russell has scored both of Mountlake Terrace’s goals.
“We’re taking it game by game,” Myers said. “We’re really looking forward to the future.”
