Surgeons attempt to reattach fingers severed by machine

LAKE STEVENS — A 17-year-old youth lost at least three fingers on one hand to a log-splitting machine he was operating in the 4700 block of 123rd Avenue NE, said Deputy Fire Chief Dave Lingenfelter of Snohomish County Fire District 8.
The accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m.
The man was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus, then to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where surgeons were attempting to reattach the fingers, Lingenfelter said.
Vernonica F. Huff, 36, was exiting the 220th Street SW offramp from I-5 when her car struck a guardrail and a light pole on the right side of the ramp, the Washington State Patrol reported.
She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was in serious condition. A passenger, Ryan J. Irwin, 22, of Shoreline, was treated at Northwest Hospital and released.
