Tax would help park, programs survive

Published 9:00 pm Saturday, September 8, 2001

The Maltby Community Park, a critically needed facility of athletic fields and shelters for community activities, has been closed recently for lack of operating funds. A profound disappointment for many children and adults this summer, the loss will become much more apparent in the next year as the full impact of losing these programs and facilities hits the community. The cause: failure to fund the East County Parks and Recreation District.

Yet in September, an opportunity remains to save these facilities and restore these programs. Resolution 01-54 seeks a modest levy of 10 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation for the maintenance and operation of Maltby Park and programs for both old and young throughout the east county district.

As taxpayers and as grandparents of Maltby children, we urge our fellow citizens to vote yes on Resolution 01-54. For the sake of our children, for the good of the community, vote on Sept. 18.
