Church of God of Prophecy at 3004 23rd St. in Everett is offering a once-a-week food bank. If you are in need, visit the church from 11:30 a.m.-noon on Sundays.

Perhaps you aren’t enamored of Monday’s Columbus Day observation. If so, you may want to join the Anti-Columbus Day Rally noon-

5 p.m. Sunday at Peace Arch Park in Blaine. Organizers claim Columbus never landed in America, and that other folks already lived here, so he didn’t discover anything worthy of having a federal holiday in his name.

Columbus Day is Monday. Here are some closures:

Government: Federal offices will be closed. Most state and local offices will be open.

Schools: Most schools will be open.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses will be open, but most banks will be closed.

Transportation: Community, Sound and Everett transit will be on regular schedule. Ferries also are on regular schedule.

  • A Mountlake Terrace political forum for City Council candidates will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 23406 56th Ave. W. A Political FYI item on Page B2 Tuesday gave an incorrect day.

  • Keiko the orca of "Free Willy" fame is alive and living in the waters off Norway. An item that appeared in the syndicated No Kidding column on Page B5 on Sept. 29 said the whale had died.

  • Tonight’s performance of the Everett Theatre Society’s production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" is at 8 p.m. at the Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave. A story on Page 28 in Friday’s A&E section had the wrong time and contact phone number. Performances continue at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 19. Tickets are available at the box office; call 425-258-6766.
