The Washington State Patrol is warning drivers to slow down on slick roads after cars slipped, slid and crashed Friday on Snohomish County’s third straight day of freezing weather.
Friday morning, a van headed south on Highway 525 in Mukilteo lost control and slid into the northbound lanes, hitting an oncoming car, Lynnwood Fire Department Lt. Glen Webster said. The van then rolled onto its side near the Highway 99 onramp, blocking traffic there for about an hour.
The wreck happened about 7:45 a.m. No one was seriously injured, State Patrol trooper Lance Ramsay said.
Several other minor accidents also happened on Highway 525 Friday morning. Weather-related wrecks also occurred in Lake Stevens and in south Snohomish County.
"It’s the time for ice, and you have to slow down, that’s the biggest thing," Ramsay said.
Meanwhile, Amtrak trains resumed service through Mukilteo Friday morning. Passenger service was halted Thursday because of an unstable hillside along railroad tracks, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, which owns the tracks.
The slope was considered unstable because of recent rainfall, he said.
