Clark leads local gymnasts at Invite

Sarah Clark of Marysville was the top performer for the Rising Stars Gymnastics Level 7 team at the Bunny Hop Invitational, held March 6-7 in Kent.
Clark, 12, took first place in the floor exercises (a score of 9.125) and second in the vault (9.525) to capture the all-around championship in her division.
“Sarah has been with us since she was 3 years old and it is so amazing to watch her grow in the sport,” Dawn Mosteller, the coach and owner of the Marysville-based Rising Stars, said in a press release. “We have state in a few weeks and I know she is going to be on top this year.”
The Rising Stars Level 6 team took third place. Rebecca Thomas, 12, of Marysville led the way, winning the bars with a score of 8.625 and placing second in the all-around.
In the Level 5 competition, Tara Togstad, 13, of Arlington, was the Rising Stars’ highest placer. She placed first in the beam (9.05) and second in the floor exercises (9.0) to place second in the all-around.
Cheerleading
Cheer teams win national titles: The Marysville-based Cheerstarz won two division titles over the weekend at the national championships in Buena Park, Calif.
The Cheerstarz’ 18-member pee-wee team (ages 4-8) and 20-member junior prep squad (7-12) each placed first in its division.
Meanwhile, the club’s 20-member junior girls team (ages 8-15) placed second Sunday at the Sonic Invitational at KeyArena.
Cheerstarz is in its second season. Workouts run from July through March. Tryouts for next season are scheduled for next month. For more information, call Lisa at 360-435-1597.
