Benefit dinner for firefighter

Camano Island firefighters are planning a benefit spaghetti feed and silent auction for injured firefighter Don McKeekin. Doors open at 3 p.m. Friday at Camano Chapel, 867 SW Camano Drive.

McKeekin was seriously injured in January while working. He spent two months in intensive care and now is rehabilitating with his new wheelchair at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He plans to attend the event.

Proceeds will go toward paying for a wheelchair-accessible van.

Music starts at 4 p.m. and the silent auction will close at 7 p.m. Three bands, the South End String Band, Just Plane Folk and the Stone Road Band, will perform.

Lake Stevens

Job work station at Family Center

Work Source has installed a self-serve work station at the Lake Stevens Family Center, 1803 123rd Ave. NE, to help people seeking employment. The station can be used to create resumes, conduct job searches and research background information on particular jobs of interest.

The service is free and is available, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday on a drop-in basis.

Marysville

NASCAR focus of meeting tonight

Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon and Marysville Mayor Dennis Kendall will host a public meeting tonight to discuss the possibility of a NASCAR racetrack in the area.

The meeting is the first in a series of community presentations that will include a presentation about the International Speedway Corp.’s proposal to build a speedway in the Northwest. The Marysville-Arlington area includes two of the proposed sites.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School auditorium, 5611 108th St. NE.

Fair starts selling tickets for events

The Evergreen State Fair started selling tickets for the 2004 Grandstand Entertainment, which is scheduled to start on Aug. 26.

Here are some highlights of the event:

Monster Madness, which will feature extreme freestyle motocross, at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 27. Tickets are $18 for grandstand reserved and $23 for grandstand preferred.

The Smothers Brothers, bring their comedy and music, at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 30. Tickets are $15 for grandstand reserved and $20 for grandstand preferred.

Sawyer Brown, a country music show, at 7: 30 p.m. on Aug. 31. Tickets are $15 for grandstand reserved and $20 for grandstand preferred.

Snohomish

Senior center offers lunches

Snohomish Senior Center, located at 171 Cypress Ave., offers lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, supported by a grant it received from the county.

On May 20, 16 people came to the center and enjoyed a turkey dinner with green salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cranberry sauce and roll for $2.50 for members and $3 for nonmembers.
