It’s cats galore at Lynnwood shelter

LYNNWOOD – Looking for the love of your life?

Maybe a sweet thing who is independent yet affectionate?

Then PAWS animal shelter may have just the thing for you: kittens, kittens and more kittens – and don’t forget older cats, too.

The nonprofit animal shelter at 15305 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood is up to its whiskers in felines. Not only is it the season for kitties, June is also the shelter’s Adopt a Cat Month.

“If someone needs a cat companion, we should be able to match them up with the right one,” said Kay Joubert, director of companion animal services at PAWS.

While kittens are often irresistible, older cats also need to be rescued, she said.

“When there’s all these kittens, it means the older cats are competing for a home,” Joubert said.

At PAWS, a cat specialist can educate you on the expectations of owning a kitten or cat, Joubert said.

For example, specialists can explain why it’s important to be able to keep your cat indoors, how to manage kittens, and natural behaviors such as scratching and clawing.

“We will help match the right personality of the cat for different living circumstances,” Joubert said.

One reason there are so many kittens this season, Joubert said, is because many cats still are not being altered.

“It’s healthier for them to be altered, and that way we can start to stop the cycle,” she said.
