The contract was let for the final link in the new Everett-Marysville-Stimson Crossing highway. The job included the completion of the south end of the new Snohomish River bridge, a cloverleaf to allow traffic to the mills on Alverson Boulevard and Walnut Street, and the change to four lanes on the road to 12th Street.

In other highway news, motorists were being stopped briefly on both Rucker Avenue and Broadway to find out if they thought a freeway from Everett through Seattle to Tacoma would be a worthwhile project.

A new real estate office, the Century 21 Market Place Real Estate, opened this week in the Smokey Point Commerce and Industrial complex on Old Highway 99 north of Marysville. It would soon move to a brand new building nearby. Bill Scherer was the broker, and Ralph Williams Jr. was the associate broker.

Jobs figured heavily in the summer activities of local young people, according to The Herald’s Youth Panel. Natalie Everett, a Mariner High School graduate, was working full-time to pay for upcoming college expenses. Damian Greene of Langley High School said many of her friends were working in construction. Linda Sparman of Lake Stevens was staying home to enjoy her summer.
