50 years ago (1954)

A new annex to the Volunteers of America would be dedicated tomorrow. The 50-by-26-foot addition would eventually house the men’s dormitory on the main floor and storage space in the basement. VOA was located at California Street and Lombard Avenue.

Today was the day to test drive and choose your new 1955 Ford. Inspired by the all-new Thunderbird, there were four series to pick from with 16 new body styles. Trigger-torque powered three engines. The exciting new Fords were in the showroom of Hutchings Motors at Pacific and Rucker avenues.

25 years ago (1979)

Everett funeral director Walter J. Precht recently installed new conference officers at the National Conference of Funeral Examining Board in St. Louis, Mo. Precht, head of Challacombe-Fickel and Precht Funeral Home, had served on the National Conference board for 15 years and was recently president of the organization, which was made up of all state licensing boards.

The Everett Exchange Club announced boys and girls of the month for local high schools. They were Mary Kay Lane and Robin Robinson of Everett High School, Marianne Saunders and Todd Morrow of Cascade High School and Joan Lamey and Ben Thomas of Mariner High School.
