MILL CREEK – Jackson, feeling crowded in the middle of its three-way tie atop the Wesco South, decided to push out its rivals, starting with Mountlake Terrace Thursday.

The Timberwolves edged the Hawks 4-2 and, combined with Kamiak’s 5-4 win over Shorecrest, moved into first place by themselves.

“Every game (between the top Wesco South teams) is a good game,” said Jackson coach Mike Moran.

Rachel Koenig-Eng set the pace for Jackson with a first-inning home run, powering the ball into a gap in the outfield and putting the Timberwolves on the board.

Jackson soon followed up with a one-run triple by Crystal Cummerfeldt in the bottom of the third.

“We had some timely hits,” Moran said. “That’s what it boils down to.”

Nena Slocum drove in Jackson’s third run on a fifth-inning triple and scored after a Terrace error.

Mountlake Terrace’s Jaime Foote blasted a home run in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to rally the Hawks.
