Arlington
Change request in planning rules
The city’s planning commission will meet at 7 tonight at the Arlington Boys &Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.
On the agenda is a public hearing about a request to amend the city’s land-use code. The amendment would allow property owners who were assessed local improvement district taxes based on formerly allowed uses to continue such use even though the city might now restrict it.
Bothell
Environment and science mix it up
The University of Washington’s Bothell campus hosts a conference this weekend about art, science and the environment.
“Earth Rites: Imagination and Practice in Sci-Arts Eco-Culture” is sponsored by the UW-Bothell’s interdisciplinary arts and sciences program and Art Culture Nature.
The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. A free festival is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Budget changes subject of hearing
Changes to the city’s budget for the first quarter of 2005 will be the subject of a public hearing of the Edmonds City Council today.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N. Also on the agenda is presentation of a gift and plaque to the city by members of the Washington Tea Party.

Animal Farm to open June 4
The Animal Farm at Forest Park opens June 4. The farm will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd. in Everett and features rabbits, lambs, pigs, goats, ducks, ponies and llamas. Admission is free.
Lake Stevens
Library hosts family story time
Residents can bring their 3- to 5-year-old youngsters to a family story time Wednesday to enjoy a story and songs. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. The story time will be 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lake Stevens Library, 1804 Main St.
Lynnwood
Manufactured homes on agenda
Changes to city law regarding manufactured housing will be discussed by the Lynnwood City Council at its work session Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W. Marysville
Library offers three story times
The Marysville Public Library will host three story times in the next two days, focusing on children.
There will be songs and finger-play fun with activities to reinforce early literacy skills after the story time for 2-year-olds and an adult caregiver at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.
On Thursday, parents and others are invited to bring in youngsters 3-12 months old for a story time and play. Bring some of the child’s favorite toys for the program at 10:30 a.m.
On Thursday, preschoolers through age 11 are invited to a family story time with songs and other activities that begins at 7 p.m.
All of the programs are at the library, 6120 Grove St.
Library group seeks members
The Friends of the Marysville Library group is seeking new members 11 years or older.
The volunteer group helps promote the library’s policies, raises money to provide some extras for things not included in the library budget, and helps educate and entertain through library activities. The group meets from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the library, 6120 Grove St.

Planning board will hold hearings
Requiring transportation improvements to be completed in conjunction with new development will be the subject of a public hearing at a meeting of the Mukilteo Planning Commission on Thursday.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 4480 Chennault Beach Road.
Another hearing will address development standards for the city’s public and semi-public zoning districts.

Snohomish
Center raffling trio of quilts
The Snohomish Senior Center is raffling three quilts this year as a fundraiser to support programs and services for seniors.
The quilts, on display at the center, 171 Cypress Ave., are a hand-painted, hand-tied floral on a yellow background, a machine-stitched quilt in blues and rose tones, and an Amish-style long twin in natural wheat color with pineapple design.
Tickets may be purchased at the center or from the center’s members. The raffle drawing will be Oct. 1 at the center’s annual bazaar and auction. For more information call 360-568-0934.
Stanwood
Rural fire safety class at Freeborn
The Snohomish Conservation District will have a free workshop for homeowners to help them prepare for the wildfire season.
The class will include how to manage vegetation and how to create a defensible space around the home. The class will be 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Freeborn Fire Station, west of I-5 at the 300th Street NW exit.
