Margaret Kime, 94, of Everett said her family has lived in Snohomish County since 1924. Her mother, Margaret Johnson, always said that when the Evergreen blackberries bloom in early June, it will turn cold after a warm spell.
Her family called it blackberry winter.
We had our warm spell in May. Now button your coats and blame the blackberries.
Time to get kids summer wheels
Sharing Wheels offers its third annual Kids Bike Swap from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 2531 Broadway Ave., Everett.
Volunteers are needed to help kids trade in old bikes for “new” ones. Last year, 40 kids biked home from the swap with new wheels. Free helmets are available with every bike.
Sharing Wheels is an Everett-based nonprofit organization that refurbishes unused bikes for people who need wheels.
New options at UW-Bothell
Agreements will be signed today so that in the fall students will be able to enroll at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus while completing an associate’s degree at Cascadia and Shoreline community colleges.
The Bothell campus has added more admission space for the fall quarter. Students may earn their first 45 credits at either Shoreline or Cascadia. After meeting program requirements, students can apply for dual enrollment. Those admitted become official students at both the community college and UW-Bothell starting their sophomore year.
Students complete their associate’s degree at their community college while taking upper-level courses at the Bothell campus.
Those in the dual-enrollment program may earn their associate’s degree, then a bachelor’s degree in business administration, computing and software systems or interdisciplinary studies.
