Libraries compile list of books about flight

With the opening of the Future of Flight Aviation Center, Sno-Isle Libraries offers a list of recommended books and Web sites for children so they can learn more about aviation.
Books
“Planes,” by David Armen-trout. Includes sections on early flight, the first airplane, propulsion, passenger planes, supersonic planes and military aircraft.
“Transportation of the Future,” by Mark Beyer. Explores the scientific advances modern man is making.
“DK Big Book of Airplanes,” Caroline Bingham. Soars with features on various kinds of aircraft.
“Boeing 747” examines the history of the world’s first jumbo jet, the Boeing 747-400.
“Flight,” by Ian Graham. From man’s first attempts at flight to the exploits of the space shuttle.
“Aero-Mania!” by Bill Gunston. A fascinating look at some of the world’s hottest planes.
“The Airplane,” by Nancy Robin Masters. This book explores the factors that led to the development of flight.
“William Boeing: Builder of Planes,” by Sharlene Nelson. A biography of the Boeing Co. founder.
“The Story of Flight: Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum,” by Judith Rinard. The story of the people who turned the dream of flight into a reality.
“The Incredible Story of Jets,” by Greg Roza. Students will be introduced to the forces of flight lift, thrust, drag, weight and to the movable parts of jets.
“Flying High: Air Travel Past and Present,” by Jane Shuter. A history of man’s attempts to fly.
“Air Force One,” by Andrew Stenella. The president’s jet is a technological wonder, equipped with advanced communications systems and top-secret, high-tech defenses.
“Airplanes,” by John Hudson Tiner. Created especially for younger readers, this collection is filled with striking images.
“World’s Largest Building,” describes the enormous building in Everett where Boeing passenger jets are manufactured.
