Meadowdale moves up

EVERETT – The Meadowdale boys soccer team scored two second-half goals to defeat Mariner 2-0 in a Wesco South game Friday night at Goddard Stadium.

The outcome broke a tie for fourth place between the two teams and moved Meadowdale into a third-place tie with Shorecrest.

Meadowdale’s Nick Holmes scored in the 48th minute off a Bradon Norton toe-poke pass to give Meadowdale a 1-0 lead.

The Mavericks’ Ousman Touray sealed the victory in the 77th minute off an Alec Nelson pass.

Mariner still has seven players, including five starters, academically ineligible.

Mountlake Terrace 2, Lynnwood 1: At Lynnwood, Casey Berlin scored both Mountlake Terrace goals in the second half of the Hawks’ Wesco South win. It was the Hawks first league win of the season.

Edmonds-Woodway 2, Shorewood 0: At Edmonds, goalkeeper Ian Michaels-Slettvet registered his third shutout of the year and Nick Laffitte and Max Doolittle each chipped in a goal as the host Warriors won their fourth Wesco South game of the year. Senior captain Doug Whitney assisted on both of the Warriors’ goals.

Lake Stevens 1, Oak Harbor 0 (2 OT): At Lake Stevens, freshman keeper Kurt Holt kept the Vikings in the game and senior midfielder Espen Sagen knocked in a goal as Lake Stevens notched its 11th Wesco North victory of the year. Holt registered his first shutout.

Cascade 4, Monroe 1: At Monroe, Trevor McDonald, Jeff Gosslee, Tyler Wilkins and Tanner Parot each had a goal and an assists for Cascade in the Wesco North game. “This was like a playoff game for us,” Cascade coach Daghan Kesim said. “If we had lost, we’d have been out of the playoffs. This kept us in the playoff race.” Kesim said goalie Phil Thomas had “five or six key saves” and that Eric Miller and Brendan O’Neill maintained tremendous pressure at midfield, preventing Monroe from mounting attacks on the Cascade goal.

Woodinville 3, Bothell 2 (OT): At Bothell, although Bothell got on the board first by scoring two goals in the first seven minutes, Woodinville came back to tie the Kingco 4A game with just under 10 minutes left on Darragh Simm’s second goal of the night. Three minutes into overtime, Tim Koetje knocked in the deciding goal.

Granite Falls 21, Cedarcrest 2: At Carnation, after keeping the game fairly close for six innings, the Tigers exploded for 12 runs on nine hits in the seventh inning en route to the Cascade Conference victory. The Granite Falls offense dominated the game, knocking out 21 hits in 44 at bats. Pitcher Billy Villegas struck out 10 batters in seven innings. Josh Knudsen and Jake Peden each knocked in three runs and Kyle Wood batted 3-for-4 with five RBI.
