Israeli to discuss occupation
Yehuda Shaul from Breaking the Silence will discuss his experiences in the Israeli army during the occupation of the West Bank and Hebron at 5 p.m. Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2624 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
Shaul was born and raised in Jerusalem and grew up in an ultra-orthodox family in a settlement near Ramallah. He was drafted into the Israeli army in March 2001. He served in most of the Palestinian cities in the West Bank, including Ramallah, Bethlehem and Hebron. After his discharge in March 2004, he and other soldiers founded Breaking the Silence to express concerns about the occupation.
Correction
The name Jerry Beringer was misspelled in the Seems Like Yesterday column Thursday in an item relating to his playing football at Everett Junior College, according to a woman who said she was his sister.
