Arlington
Parade, Santa visit coming up
hristmas comes early in Arlington this year. Santa is expected to fly into town Dec. 2 and participate in a parade along Olympic Avenue at noon. Afterwards, he’s planning to pose for photos with kids from 2 to 5 p.m. in the City Council chambers. A tree lighting is also scheduled.

Brier
Emergency training provided
Twenty-four people recently completed emergency-response classes offered by the Emergency Services Coordinating Agency.
The students received 24 hours of classroom instruction, ending with a practice disaster scenario, over an eight-week period. The course covered information on fire safety, urban search and rescue, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology and terrorism.
The Brier-based Emergency Services Coordinating Agency serves cities in south Snohomish and north King counties.

Art event to help high school
A Christmas Flair Art and Craft Boutique is planned for Dec. 1-2 in Edmonds to benefit the Lynnwood High School Scholarship fund.
The event is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 2 at ArtWorks, at the corner of Second Avenue S. and Dayton Street in Edmonds.
The sale features holiday ornaments and decorations, apparel, jewelry, paintings, gifts, treats, and more.

Island County
Kayak race approaching
Experienced kayakers with proven self-rescue skill are invited to participate in the Deception Pass Dash at 1 p.m. on Dec. 3.
The five-mile race begins at high tide in Bowman Bay, on the west end of Deception Pass, and is expected to take around an hour to complete.
In addition to racers, volunteers are needed for registration, safety and the post-race barbecue. More details on the event are available at seattleraftand kayak.com (click on “calendar”).
Lake Stevens
Giving Project gets big boost
A gift to Lake Stevens Family Center Holiday Giving Project is now worth double.
Pacific Ridge Homes has set aside $10,000 for a challenge grant to encourage people to give to the project.
The company will match donations until the $10,000 limit is reached.
The Giving Project helps families in need during the holidays.
Last year, it provided Christmas to nearly 850 community members.

Marysville
Church puts on Christmas musical
Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Marysville is putting up a new Christmas musical, “Bles-sed,” based on a book by local authors Joneen Richards and Becky Bauer, with music and lyrics by Tom Frodsham.
Productions are scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 and 2 p.m. Dec. 10.
The musical tells the story of Mary and Joseph in a way that will have audiences laughing and crying. The performance features a cast of 30 actors, 20 dancers, a 15-member chorus and elaborate sets.
The shows will be performed at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School Auditorium, 5611 108th St. NE, Marysville.

Center to have Christmas party
The East County Senior Center plans to have a Christmas party and luncheon at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at 276 Sky River Parkway. Plans include a big meal, entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus.

Student magic show planned
Dallin Frank, a 16-year-old Kamiak High School student, has scheduled a magic show at a meeting of the Mukilteo Arts Guild on Dec. 7.
The meeting is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.
Nationally known illustrator and mural artist Chris Hopkins is scheduled to open the meeting with a presentation of his work.

Senior center offers cribbage
Local senior citizens are welcome to join in on a game of cribbage at 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Snohomish Senior Center’s temporary game area in the Lower Level Small Hall of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1514 Pine Ave.

Senior center holds bazaar
The Stanwood Community and Senior Center plans a holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2. The center also has organized a tea room from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. Local vendors, treats and a raffle are expected.
