Emergency shelter opened in Everett

The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter Friday afternoon in Everett for anyone without power or displaced from their home due to the windstorm.
The shelter is at Voyager Middle School, 11711 Fourth Ave. W.
Anyone planning on using the shelter should bring personal hygiene items, medications, and a pillow. Cots and blankets will be available, the Red Cross said. Call 425-252-4103 for information.
Meanwhile the Snohomish County PUD had about 45,000 homes without electricity at 4 p.m. today in the county and on Camano Island, according to Neil Neroutsos, a spokesman for the utility There were about 120,000 homes without power during the storm’s peak Thursday night.
Crews were expected to work through night tonight to get the electricity back on, but it could take several days before everyone’s power is restored, Neroutsos said.
Electricity remained out across Whidbey Island, said Jan Smith, a spokeswoman for the Island County Sheriff’s Office. People on Whidbey should prepare to be without power for up to seven days, she said.
