Jet with 56 crashes in Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey — An Atlasjet Boeing MD 83 carrying 56 people crashed just before landing in central Turkey early today, and a police helicopter found the wreckage, officials said. An airline official said there was no sign of survivors.

The plane’s wreckage was seen near the town of Keciborlu in Isparta province, and search and rescue teams were headed to the area, officials said.

The plane went off the radar just before landing near the city of Isparta.
